The meaning of meaninglessness.

I thought this shirt was Creative

Any ways, I find Postmodernism to just be a application we (people who have a gradual understanding of it)justify by watching it act on itself. It completely backhands the notion of an Ultimate Truth or Objective reality and creates skepticism for various fields of work.

Art,Literature,Architecture,History,Society, and Philosophy have all been bitten by this Postmodern look of everything. The Literature we have been reading and the movie we saw in class are prime examples. 1984 and Brave New World fondle our take on an corrupt society and biased history. That movie we watched taught us a little about the postmodern architecture. Maus and Cats cradle touch almost all of those subjects too somewhere along the lines. All this denial, skepticism, and critical thinking is aroused by postmodernism and shatters all that was made in "modernist" times.

It is a word that creates quiet a paradox in it's search to explain itself. It Calls beliefs nothing but narratives upheld by human thought. That means this postmodern belief itself is a Narrative itself; nothing more then a biased story explaining how everything else is just a biased story. But, it is not hypocritical in anyway because it itself admits it. It creates the thought that everything is true because a discourse with its own perspective and center has adopted it to be reality. Others may say it is not but that is just their discourse. I see how everything we have done this year is just a gradual teaching of postmodernism. Fist the discourse chart followed by the circles on objective history preceded by novels that deny truth its right to be truthful. It is all just a cluster of things postmodernism is applied too. Their is a quote I found in a article Mr.D gave us quite some time ago called modernity and Postmodernism. The author states, " We must stop trying to discover the undiscoverable (absolute truth) and openly acknowledge that what might be right to one person may not be right to another. Acceptance, not criticism; tolerance, not bigotry; and love, not hatred, must become the guiding principles of our lives." This way of thinking can only been acquired if you adopt postmodern thought. Instead of the statement " I agree to disagree" post modernity enlightened people might say " that's cool this is what I think". There are a couple of completely different topics I could talk about that relate to postmodernism. I could talk about how postmodernism is just a a crap load of symbols that make a word that is only decipherable by someone who can read English. Even then they may not know the meaning and this word is still meaningless. Then they go get a dictionary (aka book of nonsense) and try to find the definition made by the dictionary's discourse that is upheld by the society that see English as their premier language. this topic is more complex so I think I will end on a good note.

I feel Postmodernism says that you can basically criticize everything and say it is bull*** because postmodernism itself is Bull*** therefore proving itself to be true, and any Bull*** that is seen to be true from any perspective becomes a Narrative believed by all that know it's story and find it true. Weather it is a Narrative with a cult following or 10,000,000,000,000 believers it is bull***. It is now humanities(and for those of you who feel we are not the only intelligent lifeforms) the Universes duty to accept this fact and be accepting and open to all this Bull***.

Sorry if this marginalized you.I know it sounded a little Harsh but hey I guess I'm just biased and follow my own Truths. Tell me about yours.

Now An example of Modern art and Postmodern art

Modern: Recognizable and known as the awesome face by all!!!

Maus thoughts

** WARNING** The second part of this is very confusing/ Try to help me out***

Well,There are a variety of different directions I can go with my Maus thesis. I could go with the whole comic book thing and talk about how that is postmodern and abstract. This direction will probably leave me with the ability to sight a lot of outside text, such as: that Scott mcCloud thing, Postmodernism for beginners, and talk about all that architecture.I could tie all these things together and say he made it a comic book to create this vibe, and blah blah blah. Not quite sure my exact wording yet. This would probably be the easy way out but this interest me the least.

What really gets my head thinking is the whole, Why did he use animals? What book category does this belong? Is their really something like a Absolute history? These questions can be answered by using the Postmodernism for beginners book and that article the Lady wrote. I could also use a couple of pg.s from Maus itself. I would Bring up how Postmodernism for beginners says somewhere in their that " their is no way to really represent the holocaust in text"(I remember it talks about that stuff somewhere but I don't really know where because RYAN JONES has my book. Then I would come in with a right hook saying this is why the characters are portrayed as animals to establish the fact that the holocaust can never really be told as a story. The animals creates this space so we don't see it to be real. Then I would use some of those explanations made in that article by that luci lady to further prove this point of no real Holocaust representation. The book also poked at quite a few of these things with that picture and the whole orchestra part. ( If you do not know what i'm talking about sorry.) Then i might take a stabb and say that the question of fiction or non fiction only comes up because it is about the holocaust. Maybe say something like yeah it is all not fiction but how can you make something that is impossible to comprehend feel real.(once again if that made sense I love you). I guess what i'm trying to say is this. In the comic novel Maus, by art spiegalmen, It becomes clear through the authors literature that their is no way to truly represent the Holocaust in a manner that can be interpreted for what it is.

that thesis kind of talks about what I wanna talk about.
Who am I kidding none of these symbols are really saying what i'm trying to say. Bah hum bug
It is like architecture a symbol of the time but not necessarily what the time was all about.

Idk Help me out

If all else fails I'll just google some thesis ideas. HAHAHAHAHAHA

a DEEP meaning

The other day in AP lit we watched an oddly themed video That showed us some crazy facts, and asked us what does it all MEAN.The English dictionary classifies this usage of the word mean as," to intend to express or indicate." From what I can make from it this video is directed at us Americans. It is informing us on the current state of the world, and comparing it with other data throughout history. Flatly pointing out how steep of an exponential growth the world is taking in the direction of a technological revolution. Germinating the political spectrum science is able to create right before our eyes. The fact that most of the data was mind blowing, forms an eerie feeling in my quarters. All the things in the video are being used every minute, and we are to oblivious to stop for a second and reflect on these observations unless a well made video puts it out in front of us. Now back too the meaning. Who am I to say what the meaning of all this factual information is. Why add to this language game. It means nothing to a homeless dude on the street. Walk up to some less fortunate individual and be like," hey, did you know- If your 1 in a million in China... there are 1300 people just like you." He'll probably curse you out or ask you for help, and not really be caring about what it means. Tie this in with the conversation that took place in ch.26 of CATS CRADLE and you will once again see how all this "true info" has no meaning to someone who doesn't care or already knows. There is no real need to ponder what it means ,but the possibilities just fascinate the mind and cause people to find a true meaning/narrative/untruth/. It's nice to know that people have their own answers to trick questions. I don't so I just say it is what it is; nothing to be taken from it or given. It's just there because it is. That happened because it happened, and this is like that because that's how it is. No why, how, and if about it, just know that it happened and generalize. Instead of everything happens for a reason, how bout everything just happens.

C.C.

Time to ramble. The book Cat's cradle by Kurt Vonagate jr. shows a postmodern sense in a variety of different ways. The way that sticks out the most and just keeps on slapping you in the face is that science is just a untruth that has no significance to those who don't care about it. I havn't been able to get my hands on the book yet so it is quite a challenge to quote the text in my blog. How ever today I did venture to the library by clark and issued a district transfer for the book. So, when I acquire the book I will revise my blog. Anyways, From what I heard in class the people in the book do not care to much for why they believe things, they just do. Much like some things in our postmodern(It might be psudo-modern now) World. Postmodernism illustrates the idea of Narratives being the explanation to all. These narratives known as harmless untruths in cats cradle are called untruths for a reason. They are not proven by anything. But the very thing that proves them( science) is possibly a untruth in someones life. So their basically is no truth in this subjective world of Discourses that are discourses because they fit a certain Narrative. Like I said in one of my past blog post,"Grand Narratives have the immaculate ability to invest such strong faith in its believers that even a scientific proof that proves it to be completely false with evidence is not enough to adhere whimsicality to its followers." Much like in the book when sensible explanations cross the minds of characters they do not care. If it does not agree or apply to the narrative their Discourse is concerned with they don't care. They see science as meaningless poop.

NO NOT ANOTHER ESSAy

First off I would just like to say Blogging ideas for an upcoming essay is great. We can read other peoples ideas and broaden our minds opinions of the topic. Sadly, at the moment I am unsure about the direction I would take on a brave new world essay. I haven't tried to find a deeper meaning to the book. I have just been reading "Passively" under Dartmouth's definition. But, I'm pretty sure my thesis would have something to do with utopia being an unreachable form of society. I might throw in something about the evils of a technological advanced society. A society that puts unisense, productivity, and profit over knowledge and reason. Not really sure on how I could build on those to ideas though. Maybe someone could leave a comment telling me how. Anyways, because I haven't finished the book yet a true theme that I can support has not been revealed to me yet. Who knows? maybe some wierd occurance can occur in the book that could change my intire outlook of the story. I'm hoping that happens because at the moment I don't know what to write. Lets hope I find a theme to support and write a thesis around soon. Maybe some of your blog post can tell me. I know this isn't 300 I'll revise this when I get some ideas of the book. Maybe the Html text in this picture will boost me to 300WORM ON MY BRAVE NEW WORLD!!

Post New world Modernism?

Myths/Narratives have probably been around as long as human beings themselves. But, what are these myths and what is their purpose? In Postmodernism for Beginners Jim Powell states that," The myth requires no authorization or legitimization other than itself; The myth defines what has the right to be said and done in the culture(POWELL25)." In the olden days people would explain the unexplainable with an Narrative. Ancient cultures such as: The Mayans, Incas, Egyptians, Early Chinese Dynasty's, Greeks, and Hinduism Framers all looked to Narratives to explain things when knowledge was limited. These stories would explain a cornucopia of Ideas. Natural Phenomena, Creation, Purpose, why things are the way they are, and Purpose/ meaning of life. All these things were deemed "law" by the group of people following them. Nobody had any other ideas as to why everything is the way it is and this is why myths were able to exist and be created in small communities. All these myths remained until some other (Grand Narrative) or scientific proof came and shattered them. Some myths can also be thought of as lies believed by everyone including the liar. But for them this lie is the only answer. Until a grand Narrative or scientific proof is made to Myth bust a myth that myth shall stand. Now in my eyes a grand Narrative is a Narrative that forces other narratives to Cease to exist due to its believability and hold over a community. Some say seeing is believing, but Grand Narratives have the immaculate ability to invest such strong faith in its believers that even a scientifically proof that proves it to be compel false with evidence is not enough to whimsical its followers. Some see science itself as a grand narrative."according to Lyotard, since science cannot depend upon science to legitimize itself, it must turn to narrative!". Since these Narratives are (Grand) any Narrative that contradicts it is deemed false and oppression between people who follow the Grand Narrative and those who don't becomes relevant. Minority Discourse's become marginalized by the very fact they are a minority. Buy because more people follow this one story your story is impossible. I really wish that These Grand Narratives can disappear and the world can be filled with respectable tiny narratives. Then America could be a place with less hate and more respect. Come on people how about we let people believe what they want to believe. Don't worry about proving them wrong and just have faith in what you believe in.

*** WARNING WHEN I WROTE THIS I WAS NOT SURE WHAT A GRAND NARRATIVE IS. FEEL FREE TO INFORM ME***
